SUMMARY:
The Mechanical Technical Field Advisor ( TFA) for steam and gas turbines manages mechanical activities on site during the Installation & Commissioning and Maintenance of the units. Responsible for reviewing plant engineering documents and P&ID s, troubleshooting
of plant systems and equipment, planning, organizing, integrating and direction of resources such as labor, tools and materials as required to complete the work scope according to contractual requirements.
The primary responsibility of the TFA for Steam and Gas turbines, is to safely accomplish the installation, maintenance and repair of the heavy rotating machinery used mainly in power generation applications, Turbines and Generators. Turbine Mechanics work
closely with Craft Labor Supervisors, EHS personnel, and the Operations Department to achieve these goals.
Prior Experience:
Prospective candidate must have experience maintaining, dismantling, assembling and installing gas and steam turbines machinery and industrial mechanical service equipment, including ventilating and heating systems. Candidates must also have experience aligning
above equipment using laser alignment or heavy experience with dial indicators/calipers using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers, and plumb bobs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
+ The TFA Reports to the project manager or lead TFA on matters involving the mechanical work during installation, commission and operation of steam and gas turbines.
+ Responsible for start-up testing and performance testing which includes reviewing plant engineering documents and P&IDs, performing testing and troubleshooting on plant systems and equipment.
+ Attend daily start-up meetings to coordinate activities in a safe manner while interfacing with other personnel involved in the project such as Electrical, controls, construction, operations, owner, engineering, and vendors
+ Direct other TAs and local craftsmen under his supervision in support of start-up testing activities.
+ Supervise customer operators during the operation of systems prior to, and after they are put into service.
+ Develop startup procedures, startup schedules, and site-specific startup documentation.
+ Ensure the correct installation, pre-commissioning, commissioning and maintenance practices are followed
+ Work with owner s representatives to maintain the startup schedule
+ Maintain startup packages, controlled drawings, and applicable project records
+ Address activities during performance testing emissions testing, and reliability testing
+ Oversees the third party testing of applicable equipment
+ Ensures lockout and tag-out procedures and all other safety-related activities are maintained
+ Provide scheduling and status reports to project manager
+ Ensure contractual obligations are met
+ Ensure all in-field activities are carried out safely complying with company environmental, health, and safety (EHS) guidelines and procedures
+ Procurement and maintaining of spare parts and consumables required for testing of systems
+ Provide expert consultation on complex projects
+ Provide customers with technical direction and support on Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) packaged products
+ Overall responsibility of the management of site activities including planning, organizing, integrating and directing of resources such as labor, tools and materials as required to complete the work scope according to contractual requirementsEDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:Bachelor Degree in Engineering and 3 years of experience, or 5 years of experience without formal degree, in power plant maintenance, turbine generator maintenance, or power plant equipment installation/ commissioning. Successful completion of required trainingprograms is a minimum requirement. Demonstrated progressive, responsible experience with various types of turbine generator equipment and site accountabilities is required.PHYSICAL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
+ Must be able and willing to work long hours
+ Must be able and willing to work weekly schedules that are not uniform on a day-to-day basis
+ Must be able and willing to work in extreme weather conditions (heat and cold) for extended periods of time
+ Extensive travel to and from projects and various field assignments is required. International travel required
