K-5 Elementary Homeroom Teacher (2017-18) Kindergarten through Fifth grade Classroom Teachers at Archway Classical Schools will implement a Core Knowledge curriculum. Homeroom subjects will include Language Arts (Riggs or Spalding for phonics), Mathematics (Singapore), History and Geography (American/World History and Geography), Science, and Chess. Subject-area specialists will teach Foreign Language, Music, Art, and Physical Education courses. Certification is not required to teach at any of the Great Hearts Academies. Great Hearts teachers, whether certified or not, demonstrate a commitment to and love for the liberal arts. However, Great Hearts does ask that our teachers be able to demonstrate they are qualified to teach the subjects they are assigned. Attached to any offer of employment, you will find a preliminary attestation form that will help the Talent Team, in cooperation with your headmaster, to determine the best route for each individual teacher. K-5 Elementary Homeroom Teacher Assistant (2017-18) Faculty will assist K-5 Classroom Teachers at Archway Classical Schools in implementing a Core Knowledge(R) curriculum. Homeroom subjects will include Language Arts (Spalding or Riggs Phonics), Mathematics (Singapore), American/World History and Geography, Science, and Chess. Assistant teachers are vital to ensuring that each student is fully engaged in the rich curriculum at an Archway Academy. Further, assistant/apprentice teachers are provided with significant teaching opportunities and specific professional development activities designed to prepare these individuals for lead teaching in the future. Certification is not required to teach or be an assistant teacher at any of the Great Hearts Academies. Great Hearts teachers, whether certified or not, demonstrate a commitment to and love for the liberal arts. To be an assistant teacher at Maryvale or Teleos Prep, candidates must have an AA, 60 hours of college credit, or be able to pass a ParaPro proficiency exam before beginning work. Further, most Archway academies require their Assistant/Apprentice teachers to pass an Elementary Education subject knowledge exam during the summer. Candidates who are offered a position will receive more information from their headmasters. HIRING PROCESS The Great Hearts recruitment/hiring committee reviews all applications, then ranks and passes qualified applications on to the Heads of School. Please note: Heads of School are largely autonomous in the hiring processes for their campuses. They discern for themselves the candidates of interest, and contact, interview, and make offers to those candidates per their own hiring timetables. Candidates may hear from one or more Head(s) of School and/or Great Hearts staff member(s) shortly after submitting their application, or they may not hear anything for a number of months (as some Heads of School prefer to interview candidates only after reviewing a large number of applications). In either case, it is in a candidate's best interest to submit application materials as soon as possible. Generally Heads of School are looking to hire candidates for the coming academic year beginning in late January and often are finished hiring around late May.
