Job Summary

Under general supervision is responsible for monitoring and troubleshooting computer control heating, air-conditioning and alarm systems. Develops preventive maintenance schedules and performs the calibration and repair of heating and air conditioning controls and equipment. Exercises technical supervision over assigned staff and may take part in the training of staff.

Essential Job Functions

* Performs preventive maintenance inspections and repairs.

* Performs maintenance on major equipment such as chillers and boilers.

* Provides technical training to HVAC Technician I's.

* Makes minor HVAC system modifications and cost estimates.

* Maintains and trouble shoots HVAC computer control system

* Monitors central plant equipment.

* Rebuild, adjusts, and calibrates temperature control devices.

* Maintains a daily log of time and materials used in HVAC operations.

* Responds to calls for emergency or problem situations.

* Prepares reports on completed work.

* Performs preventive maintenance on room size air conditioning and heating units.

* Maintains inventory of parts and supplies.

* Monitors central plant equipment and troubleshoots problems with equipment.

* Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

Job Requirements

* High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).

* Four (4) years of experience maintaining and repairing heating and air conditioning equipment.

* Valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License.

* Must possess a Class \"B\" Air Conditioning/Refrigeration license from the State of Texas.

* Must maintain federally mandated security clearance required to work at an airport at all times.

* Must successfully pass all background investigations conducted by Aviation.

* Must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Security Threat Assessment upon employment.


* Class \"A\" Air Conditioning/Refrigeration License from State of Texas.

* Knowledge of Siemens HVAC control equipment.

* Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.

* Applicants selected for employment with the City of San Antonio in this position must receive satisfactory results from pre-employment drug testing and background checks. If required for the position, a physical, motor vehicle record evaluation, and additional background checks may be conducted.


* Physical requirements include frequently lifting/carrying up to 30 pounds; visual acuity, speech and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate HVAC maintenance equipment. Subject to walking, sitting, standing, kneeling, reaching, and crouching to perform essential functions. Working conditions are both indoors and outdoors, with some exposure to temperature extremes, dust, dirt, grease, and loud noises.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

* Knowledge of Johnson HVAC control equipment.

* Knowledge of in electronic, pneumatic and manual control HVAC controls.

* Knowledge of in maintenance and repair procedures and techniques of chillers, boilers, cooling towers and pumps.

* Knowledge of safe work procedures and practices.

* Knowledge of HVAC equipment installation, repair and maintenance procedures, practices and techniques.

* Ability to perform the installation maintenance and repair of complex HVAC systems.

* Ability to read and interpret charts and gauges, electrical, temperature and humidity meters and recording equipment.

* Ability to install and maintain pneumatic controls.

* Ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical and pneumatic control systems.

* Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.

* Ability to supervise, train, and evaluate staff.
