The Institute of Chili, bringing the chili queen legacy into the 21st century!

From the early 1800s until the Great Depression, SA’s legendary “chili queens” were part of San Antonio life. These self-reliant lady entrepreneurs used local ingredients in old family recipes, and set up shop in the city’s public squares. The chili queens at the Institute of Chili are bringing the chili queen legacy into the 21st century!

Located at the Alamo Street Eat Bar, natives and visitors alike can savor original Tex-Mex and classic true-blue Texas Red, pay homage to the chili queen legacy and support a new generation of chili queens. From our mobile chuck wagon, we’ll be spooning up bowlfuls of Tex-Mex tradition with a healthy dose of foodie fun. Also serving up vegetarian chili, brisket tacos, the popular Roosevelt fried egg over chili and pork tamale, the BOMB and many other offerings, including homemade pecan cheesecake pie.

Whether you’re a local chili purist, a curious visitor, or even a vegetarian, come on down!
